Title
Beeline Route to Pratt & Whitney
Subject
Business & Industry - Commercial Business - Pratt & Whitney
Description
When Pratt & Whitney first opened for business on June 15, 1958, just west of the site where Palm Beach Gardens would be founded almost a year later, there were no gas stations or traffic lights. The state of Florida agreed to build a road (later to become known as the Beeline Highway) but the segment from West Palm Beach to the plant was delayed when the swamp refused to cooperate, swallowing tons of fill and two bulldozers. This photograph shows what the transit was like after completion of the Beeline.
