Howell L. Watkins Junior High School opened in 1962 on Gardens Boulevard (later renamed MacArthur Boulevard). Built on 20.3 acres across the street from the Little League ball field and Lake Catherine, it was the first middle school in Palm Beach Gardens. Edward Eissey was the first principal.
